History:

Valentines Day originated in 5th Century Rome as a tribute to St. Bishop Valentine. He was a priest in Rome when, the city was ruled by 'Claudius the Cruel'. Inspite of the fact that Claudius had forbidden Christian conversions and Christian marriages, the Bishop refused to surrender to Roman Gods and carried on his religious duties in secret. He was imprisoned for disobedience, but even in prison, he converted the convicts. During the days when Valentine was imprisoned, he fell in love with his jailer’s blind daughter. His love for her, and his great faith, managed her blindness miraculously healed before his death. Before he was taken to his death, he wrote a farewell message to her and signed, "From your Valentine." The phrase has been used on his day ever since. February 14th, was popular by 17th century in Great Britain. Mid-18th century saw exchange of love messages and notes and small gifts as tokens of affection amongst lovers and friends from all classes. Youth struggle to express their emotions in a special way. The festival caught on in United States, Canada, Mexico and Australia and today, it is celebrated the world over.
