Ganesh Chaturthi
Ganesh Chaturthi marks the birth of
Lord Ganesh, a symbol of wisdom
and
who brings good
luck. It is amongst the most celebrated festivals
by Hindus in India and all over the world.
It comes on the
fourth day(chauth
or chaturthi) of the bright fortnight of
Bhadrapada month of the Hindu calendar and
hence the name Ganesh Chaturthi. Every part of
the elephant epitomizes important things
related to wisdom small shrewd eyes, long ears that miss nothing, a
long nose that can smell out anything & his vehicle, a mouse
reflects how much importance a wise man gives to the smallest of
forms.
Significance of Ganesh Chaturthi
It is believed the Lord Shiva to compensate for an
unexpected situation, induced
Divine Powers in the body of Ganesh and it
marked the auspicious beginning of the life of Lord Ganesh. From then
on, no new venture - the inauguration of a company, the opening of a
shop, the foundation of a building, entering a new home is deemed
complete without performing a Ganesh puja or
reciting a 'mantra' of
Lord Ganesh. He is always honored first in most worship
services and rituals. He is known as the god who removes all
obstacles, one who gives you success in all
your ventures.
Ganesh Chaturthi Celebrations
Ganesh Chaturthi is a very important festival and is celebrated widely
all over India for a period of ten days. The first task for Chaturthi
is to buy a new idol of Lord Ganesha which is aesthetically
created
in varied colors & sizes!
Celebrations include fasting, feasting and
distribution of gifts, sweets.
Praying to Lord Ganesh during the festival brings good luck &
prosperity for the entire family. In Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh,
Tamil Nadu & other states, the festival is celebrated for 10 days and
on the tenth day, the idols are taken on a procession around the
cities and immersed in the sea.
